Cabana Bay Beach Resort in Orlando, Florida captures a playful retro vibe down to the toiletries in the shower. Bright colors, family suites and a long list of on-site activities make it an ideal base for families visiting the Universal Orlando area. During our recent four-night stay we only scratched the surface of what the resort offers — here are the highlights and things you can plan to enjoy.
Float in the Lazy River
The resort has two main pool areas, and one features a relaxing lazy river. Tubes are available for purchase so you can float as long as the pool remains open.
Take a Walk
Well-maintained paths wind through the property, offering nice landscaping, views of classic cars and pool scenes. If you’re up for a roughly 20-minute stroll, a pedestrian path leads toward Universal CityWalk for dining and shopping.
Go Bowling
Cabana Bay features an on-site bowling alley adjacent to the game room. Lanes are rented by the hour, so you can bowl as many games as time allows. There are only ten lanes, so reservations are recommended. A restaurant and bar inside the bowling area lets you enjoy food and drinks while you play.
Pool Hop
Guests staying at Cabana Bay can often “pool hop” to other Universal Resorts, such as Sapphire Falls, Loews Royal Pacific and Hard Rock Hotel, giving you access to additional pools and amenities across the resort network.
Watch a Movie
Catch a film in the small on-site theater located near the Bayliner Diner, or join an outdoor movie on the lawn by the pool when special screenings are scheduled.
Test Your Skills in the Game Room
The arcade next to the bowling alley has a variety of skill and ticket games for all ages. Turn in your tickets at the prize counter for small souvenirs to take home.
Visit Volcano Bay
A walking path provides direct access to Universal’s Volcano Bay water park, making it easy to spend a full day enjoying the slides and wave pool without driving.
Universal Parks & CityWalk Shuttle
The resort runs shuttle service to Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and CityWalk approximately every 15 minutes. Check with the front desk for the shuttle schedule, including the first and last departures, so you can plan your park days.
Swim in Two Distinct Pools
Choose between the Cabana Courtyard pool, which features a dive-themed waterslide, and the Lazy River Courtyard, which includes a sandy beach area and the lazy river. Both provide plenty of seating and family-friendly environments.
Poolside Activities
Daily poolside activities are posted at the front desk and may include splash contests, games and other family events. The beach area also offers cornhole, beach volleyball and ping-pong for guests who want active fun.
Shop in the Gift Store
The on-site gift shop stocks souvenirs, basic essentials and merchandise similar to what you’ll find in the parks — handy if you forgot something or want a last-minute keepsake.
Work Out
The fitness center is equipped with cardio and strength equipment so you can maintain your routine while on vacation.
Meet and Greet Characters
On select evenings — typically Fridays — popular Universal characters make appearances at the resort for photos and meet-and-greet opportunities designed especially for hotel guests.
S’mores by the Fire
Pick up a s’mores kit at the Bayliner Diner and gather around the outdoor fire pit to toast marshmallows. It’s a relaxing way to end a busy day and reminisce about highlights from your trip.

We had an excellent time at Cabana Bay — from swimming and arcade games to bowling and s’mores by the fire. Seeing kids of all ages, including teenagers, join in the activities made the stay especially memorable.
