Easy Homemade Ranch Dressing is a fresh, flavorful ranch made from scratch. This simple recipe uses pantry staples and comes together quickly, giving you a creamy dressing or a thick dip depending on how much milk you add.

We’re big ranch fans at my house. While it’s perfect on salads, we also enjoy it as a dip or even spooned on pizza for extra flavor. Store-bought ranch is convenient, but homemade wins on freshness and taste. This version uses ingredients I always have on hand and takes only a few minutes to whisk together. I like keeping a jar in the fridge so I can quickly serve a veggie tray or dress a salad for dinner.
How To make Homemade Ranch Dressing:
Below are a few photos and a straightforward method to show how the dressing comes together. This recipe combines mayonnaise and sour cream for a rich base; if you prefer, Greek yogurt can replace the sour cream for a tangier, lighter result.

Whisk the mayonnaise, sour cream (or Greek yogurt), and the dried seasonings until well blended. At this stage the mixture will be fairly thick. This is the base you’ll adjust to your preferred consistency: add less milk for a dip, or more for a pourable dressing.

I usually start with 3/4 cup of buttermilk for a creamy, pourable dressing. If you want a thick dip-like texture, start with 1/2 cup and add more as needed. Regular whole milk can also be used if you don’t have buttermilk; whole milk will give the creamiest result.

Taste the dressing and adjust seasonings if needed. You can serve it immediately, but chilling it for a couple of hours improves the flavor as the herbs hydrate and meld. Store the ranch in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Enjoy!
