Here are a few other Halloween dinner ideas you can combine with the shepherd’s pie for a larger gathering or a themed meal night.

The kids always get a kick out of this dish when I bring it to the table—there’s lots of laughter and excitement. The best part for me is how easy it is to make. Using leftover cooked ground beef makes the recipe even simpler, and instant mashed potatoes are a convenient shortcut if you need one.
I often brown several pounds of ground beef for taco night, then save half for recipes like this shepherd’s pie. That one prep step saves time the rest of the week and makes weeknight dinners much easier.
Leftover ground beef also works well in baked bean nachos or cheeseburger tots on non-Halloween nights.

I enjoy matching holiday-themed meals with seasonal movies and music. Other family favorites include spooky ghost sandwiches and bacon-wrapped meatloaf served with ghost mashed potatoes.
Spooky Ghost Shepherd’s Pie Tips
- Use leftover cooked ground beef to speed up prep.
- Instant mashed potatoes made from real potatoes are a great time-saver.
- To attach black sesame seed eyes, moisten your fingertip slightly, press a seed to the tip, then place it gently on the mashed potato ghost.
- Pipe mashed potato ghosts in a swirl, or use a larger opening for one steady squeeze that tapers toward the top.
- Save some extra mashed potatoes to “frost” individual servings—kids find this especially fun.
