What if you could get a clear sense of your child’s future health without drawing blood or running genetic tests?
Dr. Brian Stenzler can provide that insight in about 20 minutes with his D.R.E.A.M. Wellness score. In this episode we flip many common health assumptions on their head. I walked away with a practical to-do list for my family, and you’ll find both actionable and philosophical takeaways here, including:
- Why the word “sick” can be misleading and why we might stop using it
- How the “everything in moderation” philosophy can lead to poor outcomes
- A simple health litmus test that starts with looking in the mirror—but not in the way you expect
- How I plan to teach my kids better posture while using tablets
- What might convince me to stop sleeping in on weekends (I’m still working on this one!)
Dr. Brian challenged many of my assumptions, redefined common terms, and offered practical guidance to improve whole-family health.

What’s Your D.R.E.A.M. Wellness Score?
- 18:10: Dr. Brian’s book, D.R.E.A.M. Wellness, introduces a score to estimate future health and explains how the score was developed.
- 23:19: Parents should generally complete the D.R.E.A.M. score survey on behalf of younger children; for babies, parental exposure mirrors the child’s environment so answers will be similar.

- 24:55: The D.R.E.A.M. score looks beyond physical health to include diet, relaxation, exercise, and mental wellbeing, and even broad cultural exposures like violent media.
- 30:00: Strategies for helping kids adopt mindfulness practices such as affirmations are discussed.
Can you look in the mirror and say, ‘I love you’? – Dr. Brian Stenzler
- 32:43: Dr. Brian intentionally left “A” to be explored—listen to discover what it stands for in the D.R.E.A.M. framework.
- 33:45: Examples of stressors: chemical (allergens, pesticides, medication), physical (poor posture, falls, injuries), and emotional (financial strain, relationships, work stress). Reducing these stressors supports health.
Raising Kids for Future Health
- 35:59: While avoiding stressors is ideal, we must also help children adapt to unavoidable exposures by supporting recovery and resilience.
- 37:11: Teaching kids to use screens in healthy ways is essential—techniques and boundaries make screen time less damaging.
- 43:29: Families should teach children how to navigate controversial topics with respect and grace, rather than avoiding them entirely.
- 44:03: Sleep is a foundational pillar of health. Dr. Brian explains why a consistent wake time can matter more than a fixed bedtime; large weekend sleep shifts may harm more than help.
- 48:19: After learning your family’s D.R.E.A.M. score, consider how to prioritize changes and what steps to take next.
